Tateyama sea breeze course touring by rental bicycle

West exit of Tateyama station

Start riding rental bicycle here. 200 m ride from the west exit of Tateyama station brings you to Hojo beach. It's the beginning of the trip via bicycle from the station, feeling the atmosphere of the ocean.

Nagisa-no-eki Tateyama

Nagisa-no-eki Tateyama has Tateyama municipal museum, Umibe-no-Hiroba (an aquarium having fish inhabit in Tateyama bay), souvenirs of Tateyama, Tateyama, and observatory deck having full view of Tateyama bay. You can learn about the history relating to the sea of Tateyama and living creatures inhabit in the sea of Tateyama
Tours are available for free.

Shiroyama park (the ruin of Tateyama castle)

Tateyama castle (Hakkenden museum) having the keep stands on the peak of Shiroyama park. This castle used to be the main castle of Satomi clan, who was a military commander in the Warring States period. This museum's theme is "Nanso satomi hakkenden". The park is variegated with flowers of each season such as camellias, Japanese apricot trees, cherry trees, and azaleas.
The exquisite scenery from the peak is also recommended.

Akayama underground trench (war remains)

One of the notable war remains in Tateyama. It was used as a shelter of Tateyama Naval Air Corps. Total length of this underground trench is 1.6 km, and 250 m of it is opened for public.

Okinoshima idsland

A small island the perimeter of which is about 1 km, connected with land with a sand beach. In and around this desert island, you can see undersea ruins of Jomon period about 8000 years ago, northernmost limit of coral inhabitant, various beach animals and plants living in harmony. In summer, you can enjoy sea bathing and snorkeling. From autumn to spring, you can enjoy exploring the island and taking full pleasure in the nature of the island.

Watching sunset at Hojo beach (designated as Japan's 100 Most Beautiful Sunset)

You can see beautiful sunset from Hojo beach. On sunny days, Mt. Fuji can also be seen. In certain periods in May and July, you may see sunset sink behind Mt. Fuji.
